(Read John 13:1-17 ; Listen to John 13:1-17)

Read Philippians 2:3, 5-8 and then describe a situation in your life where your attitude was the opposite of Jesus’.

Can you share an experience in your life where you were humble or you saw an example of humility?

Have you taken the opportunity to follow Jesus command in John 13:14 - have you washed another’s feet? Describe your experience.

John 13:1-17    (Listen to John 13:1-17)

Midweek Moment

SEE JESUS: His Humble Character

Matt. 11: 28 - 30: Compassion involves first looking directly at the person with the problem, letting our hearts become moved, and moving our feet/doing something about it.

Phil. 2:3, 5-8: Jesus emptied Himself and put on an active, service mind-set.

Do you have a service mindset, or a being served mindset?

SEE JESUS: His Example

John 13:1-17: The Passover Lamb of God served the passover!! Moreover, he took the role of a servant and washed his disciples feet, teaching us to actively do the same. Humble service in Jesus name is a beautiful thing! (Peter, who said, “No, Lord!” later said “. . . cloth yourself with humility.”

Dirty feet is to foot washing as walking through this world is to confession.

SEE JESUS: His Teaching

Culturally, when Jesus served his disciples, reciprocity was an absolute responsibility. Jesus’ foot washing was breaking cultural boundaries which they understood as having a reciprocal responsibility. I AM blesses you so you can bless others. Pay it forward.

BE JESUS

Our motivation should move beyond avoiding hell to love for God (Matt. 24:37), obedience (Jn. 13:14-15; Jn. 15:8), and out of compassion for others (Matt. 22:39; 7:12).

The world desperately needs us. We can’t stay and just sit here. GO!! Pay it forward in Christ’s name. Don’t squeak by with a “C.”
