PALM SUNDAY - nbsp;I SEE JESUS: Worship the King!

John 12:1-32

How do you worship the Lord personally versus corporately? What is the difference, if any?

What would you/do you offer to the Lord personally, as an act of worship?

Describe the King that you worship.

John 12:1-32

At Bethany

1Six days before the Passover, Jesus arrived at Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2Here a dinner was given in Jesus' honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. 3Then Mary took about a pint[a] of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

nbsp;4But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, 5"Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year's wages.[b]" 6He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.

nbsp;7"Leave her alone," Jesus replied. " It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. 8You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me."

nbsp;9Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. 10So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well, 11for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and putting their faith in him.

The Triumphal Entry

nbsp;12The next day the great crowd that had come for the Feast heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. 13They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting,

nbsp;nbsp; "Hosanna![c]"

nbsp;nbsp; "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!"[d]

nbsp;nbsp; "Blessed is the King of Israel!" 14Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written,

nbsp;15"Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion;

nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; see, your king is coming,

nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; seated on a donkey's colt."[e]

nbsp;16At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him.

nbsp;17Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word. 18Many people, because they had heard that he had given this miraculous sign, went out to meet him. 19So the Pharisees said to one another, "See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!"

Jesus Predicts His Death

nbsp;20Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the Feast. 21They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. "Sir," they said, "we would like to see Jesus." 22Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus.

nbsp;23Jesus replied, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.

nbsp;27"Now my heart is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. 28Father, glorify your name!"

nbsp;nbsp; Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and will glorify it again." 29The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him.

nbsp;30Jesus said, "This voice was for yo...</itunes:summary>

Midweek Moment:

Introduction:

	Our best days are ahead
There are moments we look forward to and moments we do not look forward to
Jesus gives us an example of each of these in His own life

The Father's Will:nbsp; Jesus' Ministry (John 4:34)

A Divine Appointment With the Father's Will (The Samaritan Women at the Well)
Jesus had to pass through Samaria as His assignment from the Father

*Jesus was tired and was resting, waiting patiently when the Samaritan woman came to draw water.

*Jesus waits patiently to meet each one of us in so many ways and times.nbsp; He is there!

*The Samaritan Woman comes to the well unhappy, unfulfilled and lonely.

*Jesus initiates a conversation by asking: "Will you give me a drink?"

nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; The well she draws from is contaminated, stagnant

Jesus sees her deepest need of the thirst of her soul to find meaning, purpose and fulfillment.nbsp; She is THIRSTY!nbsp; Jesus shares with her by asking her more questions about herself, not judging or condemning.nbsp;

nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; *Jesus leads her to Himself as the water she could drink and never thirst again!nbsp; A man

who wants nothing from her but wants to give something to her:nbsp; If you knew the person asking you for a drink, you would have asked him, He would have given you living water!"

John 3:34 Jesus loves doing the Father's will and thus the woman became filled with being loved. She out of her fullness delighted to do God's will and told those in the town. Do you delight in God's Will or would you rather that it conform to your will?
Above everything else Jesus lived to do God's will! Doing His will gave Him joy, delight, satisfaction.

The Father's Will:nbsp; Jesus' Submissionnbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; nbsp; (Matthew 26:36-36; Hebrews 5:7,8)

	The Father's Will: THE CROSS
Jesus and the disciples are in the garden of Gethsemane and Jesus is very sorrowful (My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.") He was seeing the Cross, He was seeing the sin of the whole world upon His shoulder, He was seeing the Father turn His back.
Jesus prayer in the Garden: "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet, not as I will, but as you will." (Herein is the example for us in submitting to God's Will)
We have many times when we are sorrowful over a myriad of things that come to us and Jesus gives us an example:
	1. Ask close friends to watch and pray. Matthew 26:37,38)

*Jesus was real about His feelings and shared His moment with His disciples

*He longs for companionship and comfort from His disciples

* We do not need to hide them or pretend they are not there.

*We were not meant to carry sorrow alone in times of sorrow

nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; 2.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Be honest and bring your feelings to God.

nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; *Jesus was honest about His feelings openly and honestly with the disciples and

Text:nbsp; John 13:1-17
(Read John 13:1-17 ; Listen to John 13:1-17)

Read Philippians 2:3, 5-8 and then describe a situation in your life where your attitude was the opposite of Jesus'.

Can you share an experience in your life where you were humble or you saw an example of humility?

Have you taken the opportunity to follow Jesus command in John 13:14 - have you washed another's feet? Describe your experience.

John 13:1-17nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; (Listen to John 13:1-17)
Midweek Moment
SEE JESUS: His Humble Character

Matt. 11: 28 - 30: Compassion involves first looking directly at the person with the problem, letting our hearts become moved, and moving our feet/doing something about it.

Phil. 2:3, 5-8: Jesus emptied Himself and put on an active, service mind-set.

Do you have a service mindset, or a being served mindset?

SEE JESUS: His Example

John 13:1-17: The Passover Lamb of God served the passover!! Moreover, he took the role of a servant and washed his disciples feet, teaching us to actively do the same. Humble service in Jesus name is a beautiful thing! (Peter, who said, "No, Lord!" later said ". . . cloth yourself with humility."

Dirty feet is to foot washing as walking through this world is to confession.

SEE JESUS: His Teaching

Culturally, when Jesus served his disciples, reciprocity was an absolute responsibility. Jesus' foot washing was breaking cultural boundaries which they understood as having a reciprocal responsibility. I AM blesses you so you can bless others. Pay it forward.

BE JESUS

Our motivation should move beyond avoiding hell to love for God (Matt. 24:37), obedience (Jn. 13:14-15; Jn. 15:8), and out of compassion for others (Matt. 22:39; 7:12).

The world desperately needs us. We can't stay and just sit here. GO!! Pay it forward in Christ's name. Don't squeak by with a "C."</itunes:summary>

Jesus' Ministry Mindset

Text: Various. See below.

nbsp;- How do you relate to people that are different than you?

- Are there times you turn off your "ministry radar"? What are some of those times or scenarios when you are not looking to serve others?

- How do you share your faith in conversation?

- Think of a time when someone shared the truth in love to you.

Philippians 2:5-7

5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,

7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

The Woman at the Well - John 4:7-32nbsp; (Listen to John 4:7-32)
Midweek Moment
Matt. 20:17-27

The story of the pushy mother:

When the sons of Zebedee wanted the seats of power Christ taught them a essential Kingdom teaching: that the Kingdom of God is upside down, that the first will be last, that leaders are servants to others just as Christ demonstrated.

Jesus said: Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave- 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Membership has its Privileges and Responsibilities

The Marines and the Country Club are not the same!

Two Incredible Privileges

1. Pardoned from Death Row

middot; Rom. 3:23; 5:8; 6:23

2. Forgiven and Adopted

middot; Rom. 8:15 - 18

15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs-heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

Three Huge Responsibilities

1. Change: Come as you are but don't stay that way!

middot; Rom. 2:9-12; Rom. 12:1

middot; How have you changed in the last 6 months? Or have you changed?!!!

Rom 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God-this is true worship

2. Sacrifice: Love one another and non-Christians sacrificially!

middot; John 13:34-35; John 3:16; 2 Timothy 2:24-26

middot; The Christian life is not a Country Club...it is an army!

middot; Only when others need supersede mine are we sacrificing.

3. Service: Find your role and fill it!

middot; 1 Peter 4:10-11; 1 Cor. 12; Rom. 12:3-8; Matt. 20:17-18

middot; We are Jesus' hands, feet and mouth to the world.

middot; Do you know your spiritual gift? Are you using it?

middot; There are many opportunities to serve next week...sign up now to put your faith into action in serving others! </itunes:summary>

Midweek Moment

middot;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Anger is a normal human emotion.

middot;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; God given means of protecting ourselves, for setting boundaries.

middot;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Jesus had an emotional life (He cleared out the temple).

middot;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Anger is a misunderstood emotion. We don't do anger well in the church. Most of us have not seen anger done well and have come to associate anger with destruction.

Two Questions

nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; 1. What do we get angry about?
nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; "CHRISTIANS DON'T GET ANGRY"nbsp;

middot;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; We don't get our way
middot;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; We are frustrated
middot;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; We have been hurt
middot;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; We are angry at someone elsenbsp;

nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; 2. What do we do with our anger?
nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; "over the top" (raging)
nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; "under the table" (passive-aggressive)

What does the Bible teach about anger?

Eph 4:26 In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry. (avoid festering anger and bitterness)

Ps 4:4 In your anger, do not sin. When you are on your beds, search your heart and be silent. (think about what you are angry about, ask God to show you what it is about)
Prov. 29:11 "A fool gives full vent to his anger but a wise man keeps himself under control"
James 1: 19 - 20 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slooooooooow to speak and slooooooooow to become angry, (20) because OUR anger does not produce the "righteousness that God desires".

The Message: "Post this at all the intersections, dear friends: Lead with your ears, follow up with your tongue, and let anger straggle along in the rear. God's righteousness doesn't grow from human anger."

So, what IS the "righteousness that God desires? "

To have God's righteousness we must have God's mind, that is, to love what HE loves, to hate what HE hates, and to be angry about what HE is angry about.

Proverbs 6
There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him:

17 haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,

18 a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,

19 a false witness who pours out lies
and a person who stirs up dissension in the community.

middot;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Anger w/o action, anger without focus is useless. It must be used as energy for change.

middot;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Anger toward sin can be channeled into compassion for the needy and lost.

middot;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Let's be angry like Jesus.....not like us!

middot;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; The Pharisees were religious but w/o love or compassion.

middot;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; The Pharisees tried to trap Jesus but asking if it were "lawful" to heal on the Sabbath.

middot;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Jesus had the man stand and acknowledge his need for healing.

middot;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Our healing STARTS when we acknowledge our NEED for His healing

middot;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Jesus looked into their hearts and saw stubborn coldness and was distressed and angry about their lack of compassion.

middot;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; The Pharisees valued their rules over the needs of people (stone cold).

Question: Are you ready to acknowledge your need for healing?
From anger? From ...</itunes:summary>
